You can change the plan North using the Orientation parameter.

Understanding Revit’s two Norths

True North is when the plan view is oriented to the real-world north direction.

Project North is a virtual orientation (normally orthogonal to the screen) used to facilitate modelling and understanding the project.

If you started working with Project North

This might be the most intuitive way of working, but it is crucial to represent the actual north for all kinds of documents. Establishing the True North is easy, you need to:

• Be in a Floor Plan (not Area Plan or other type of view).
• Change the Orientation parameter of the view to True North.
• Draw a line or define any reference that points to the real north.
• Manage → Position → Rotate True North → rotate the view using the reference so it points to the real-world north.

If you started working with True North

This means that you probably started working using a reference and your plan views are oriented to the real-world north direction.

The manipulation to define a Project North is unfortunately more risky, as it repositions the elements in the model.

• Be in a Floor Plan (not Area Plan or other type of view).
• Change the Orientation parameter of the view to Project North.
• Manage → Position → Rotate Project North → rotate the view using a reference (like a wall) so it points where desired.
